The transverse mercator projection is a map projection, that maps a spherical panorama (a panorama covering a full sphere) onto a cylinder. In choosing the points, where this cylinder touches the sphere influences the resulting image. To remap a spherical panorama into a transverse mercator image panorama stitching software like PTGui or Hugin can be used.
